Conference May 2018

Sound Memories project conference – Gertrudiskapel Utrecht 28-29 May 2018

On Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th May 2018, the SoundMe teams present their research to scholars and to the general public. We shall discuss our work with experts in medieval and early modern studies from around the world, showcase the contributions of our Associate Partners, and go beyond the traditional academic conference format by exploring interactive and performative ways of sharing knowledge and research results.

Monday 28th kicks off the conference with a focus on scholarly presentations. A concert in the late afternoon of Monday 28th showcases two very different interpretations of fifteenth-century music by Associate Partners Bastarda (Warsaw) and La Morra (Basle).

On Tuesday 29th we add to this an immersive musical experience for all participants, led by members of our Associate Partners Schola Gregoriana Pragensis (Prague) and Trigon Ensemble (Leiden). Two roundtables explore performance as a heuristic tool (Roundtable 1), and the impact and relevance of historical scholarship for today’s societies (Roundtable 2).

Confirmed speakers and panelists include Rebekah Ahrendt (Utrecht), Antonio Chemotti (Warsaw), Jan Ciglbauer (Prague), David Eben (Prague), Margot Fassler (Notre Dame), Daniele V. Filippi (Basle), Paweł Gancarczyk (Warsaw), Bartłomiej Gembicki (Warsaw), Michał Gondko (Basle), Inga Mai Groote (Zurich), Sarah Hamilton (Exeter), Ulrike Hascher-Burger (Utrecht), Margot Kalse (Leiden), Karl Kügle (Oxford and Utrecht), Manon Louviot (Utrecht), Adam Mathias (Cambridge), Ruxandra Marinescu (Utrecht), Judith Pollmann (Leiden), Christine Roth (Zurich), Floris Schuiling (Utrecht), Paweł Szamburski (Warsaw), Iris van der Tuin (Utrecht) and Andreas Zielke (Berlin).
